This blog is about the delicious food and sweets in Paris,
but I like to share the story how we got to Paris first.
Our trip to Paris began in Hannover at about 8AM. There is no direct train to Paris, we had to
switch in Karlsruhe to another train (TGV). We got to the Hannover central
railway station early enough to pick up some food and then go to the platform to
wait for the ICE. Postings on the
platform show you where the railcar with our seat assignments stops using
letters. Our railcar was supposed to be
at the end……
This is when we had a few unforgettable events:
The train was reversed so our railcar was at the other
end. ICE’s don’t stop long so we were
directed to enter the train about 10 railcars before ours. We were not the only ones at the wrong end of
the train.
Imagine tracking thru the train with people and their
luggage coming your way to get to their seats and us trying the other way to
get to our seats with the luggage. It’s
funny now, but was not then.
We got to our seats and settled in. We had about 25 minutes to switch trains and
that is normally enough. So it turned
out our train was late, missing our connection to Paris would be a bad thing. We would have to switch trains several times
and on top of it pay full fare. (we purchased our tickets in advance for a
discount).
I talked to one of the conductors about the late arrival and
I was not the only one. I was told they
send a message to the train we needed to get on to, but could not guaranty the
train would wait. So before we arrived
in Karlsruhe my daughter and her then boyfriend, got the entire luggage
together and we were ready at the door. These
two would sprint with the luggage to the train platform and keep the doors open
if needed for us older people to make it. We had about one minute to spare when
the train stopped.
Train stopped my daughter and her boyfriend made a mad dash
(both had two suitcases to carry) up the stairs to the platform. We followed and the train rolled in. I noticed that this train was also reversed
in order so this time we were at the correct spot to enter to get to our
seats…..
Checking into our airbnb
apartment was easy, we stayed in the middle of the Montorgueil section of Paris. Once relaxed we wandered out to find a
place to eat.
Finally made it to our seats in the ICE. That girl is hungry.
Hmmm not sure if we should eat here
This is the dish I ordered. It was actually delicious.....The next day I had to leave our tour of the Louvre to go back to the apartment, because I had the runs! Can't say if it was all the travel stress or the food, I vote for the food.
Ice cream is soooo delicious!
We found this place while we were exploring streets in Paris
Just a little bit extra in my daughters Tuna tartar.....
My beef tartar - missed some extra onions.
A delicious cheese cake
Not sure what these were, my daughter and her fiancé went to dinner in an upscale restaurant for their engagement.
